It's a pretty pointless 'what-if' to wonder about. Assuming that is true, I don't think we can know for certain that a more traditional BoFV would have done better or worse than DQ. I don't have a source onhand but I have heard multiple times that BoF's sales were declining ever since III, and IV sold half of what III did worldwide. It's not even something most JRPG fans were ready for at the time either, it was just way too out of the norm. The only problem is it carried the brand name of a very traditional JRPG series, so it wasn't really what the fans wanted. Dragon Quarter is a beautifully crafted RPG and one of the most bold and innovative titles the genre has ever seen.
